Hello my Seckramaniacs! Unbelievably, I haven’t updated this blog for over a year! I’ve been concentrating mainly on posting to Facebook and Twitter with updates about book 2, but I realise some of you may not be subscribed to either of those accounts, so I thought it was about time I shared something here!
For those of you that don’t know, I have some good news – I have been incredibly busy writing The Trinity Awakening, which is almost finished! I originally thought I would be able to have it finished by summer 2012, but man, was I deluded . . . ! I severely underestimated the amount of work and time that promoting City of the Falling Sky would require, combined with working 4 days a week at my day job as a bookseller at my local bookstore.
I apologise to everyone who I told it would be ready by summer – I genuinely thought I would be able to get it done by that time! But finally, the book is almost done. I don’t want to underestimate these final stages, so I’m guessing it will still be at least a couple more months, but I’m super excited about it, and you can start getting yourselves ready for another adventure with Seckry and friends
Thank you all for being so patient. I hope you haven’t forgotten about Seckry, and keep an eye out for updates in the very near future . . .
Some of you may know that alongside writing, I’m a bookseller at Waterstone’s, and that means I get advance copies of books sometimes months before they’re published, yay! I’ve decided that I’m going to use this blog to review books as well as update you about The Seckry Sequence. Recently I got hold of A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix which I believe will be released on 15th May, so I’m going to read it and give my honest opinion. So far it looks awesome, even though I wasn’t a fan of Sabriel (it was too bleak and grim and horror/gothic based for my personal taste, although I know loads of people love it). This looks completely different to that series, so I’m really looking forward to it. My ARC actually came with a note from UK editorial director of Harper Collins (and fellow author) Nick Lake, comparing this book to Battlestar Galactica, and I absolutely Read more
That’s right! At last year’s Halloween party I dressed up as Cloud Strife. It was an amazing party, and I was really happy with the way the outfit turned out. I decided to go with a mix of styles across all platforms that Cloud has appeared on – The main style was from Advent Children, with black instead of purple being the most predominant colour, but I prefer the shoulder protector he had in the original game so I made that instead. The thing is made of polystyrene with some chunky metal bolts stuck into it! You can’t see much of it from this pic but I wrapped white tape all around my buster sword to make it look like the Kingdom Hearts one. No idea what the purpose of that would be in real life but I always thought it looked cool The wig I had shipped over from China, and the Read more
As many of you will know I’m a MASSIVE Final Fantasy fan, mainly VII and VIII, and back in early 2010 I wrote this blog post about my hopes and fears for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII. It’s such an epic post that I thought I’d post it here. Sadly, Final Fantasy XIII turned out to be the worst game in the series for me, even worse than XII, which is saying a lot. Not a single thing in this post that I hoped for was made a reality, and all of my fears were just. I think making XIII – 2 is a very bad idea, but I really do hope that Square Enix can prove me wrong. I’ve heard that they are addressing some of the issues Read more
I remember the first time I heard the words Harry Potter spoken. It was by my youngest sister, underwater, in the Canary Islands.
I had been growing my hair for the previous four months in an attempt to look a little more heavy metal, and it wasn’t working. Instead of growing down, my hair was growing out, like a dandelion with the texture of a brillo pad.
But when I plunged myself into the clear waters of that rooftop pool that summer, my hair, freshly hydrated, floated down across Read more
I think this will be a great way for you to sample my writing style without having to download the samples through Amazon. This chapter is about Seckry training for his first annual Friction Mega Meltdown (a really big thing in Skyfall City!)
Can’t seem to get indents to work here, but you’ll get the idea.
Hope you enjoy
Chapter Fifteen – Kolda Kod
At the time of me writing this post I have just 12 fans on Facebook, not a single comment on this site, and not a single ebook sale. Let’s see if this changes. Maybe one day I’ll look back on this post and smile I’m going to take this opportunity to thank everyone who will buy City of the Falling Sky and its sequels. You are the people that will change my life. I hope my books change yours.
